The Ministry of Health, as part of the World Day to Combat Smoking, launched a number of mobile de-addiction clinics for smokers in various parts of the Kingdom on Saturday.
The clinics are operated by consultants and specialists who will instruct the public on ways to stop smoking and undertake an anti-smoking awareness drive to eradicate the injurious habit, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Supervisor General of the “Combat Smoking” drive at the Ministry of Health Dr. Ali Al-Wadei said that the clinics will be stationed in different malls in the cities such as the Granada Mall in Riyadh, Red Sea Mall in Jeddah, Makkah Mall Center in Makkah, Al-Rashid Mega Mall in Madinah and the Al-Dhahran Mall in the Eastern Province.
The clinics will be in operation at a location for a few months and will continue to educate people on the fatal risks involved in smoking. They will also strive to take the anti-tobacco message to the maximum number of smokers by visiting workplaces and frequent haunts of smokers.
Apart from educating on the harms of smoking, the clinics will also offer medical consultations, ways to cure the habit, after-cure care, in addition to conducting studies on the issue.
Another feature of the clinics is a specially equipped section for women smokers run by women doctors and experts.
