Remembering Iqbal

This is with reference to the report “Pakistanis pay tribute to philosopher-poet Allama Iqbal (Nov. 16). Indeed, Iqbal is one of the greatest poets of the Urdu language. He was also a distinguished thinker, who through his poetry tried to awaken the Muslim community in the subcontinent. Iqbal believed that only untiring efforts could put the Muslim community on the path to progress. Through his poetry, he highlighted the importance of education. He urged the Muslim community not to lose their self-steam in the face of difficulties.
Initially, Iqbal used to show his poems to Dagh Dehlvi, another great Urdu poet, so as to get his expert opinion. Within a short span of time, Dehlvi told Iqbal that his poetry did not need any correction and were perfect.
Iqbal’s poetry also focused on the past glory of the Muslims. His message to the Muslims was to shun their differences and to start acting on the true teachings of Islam. — Anees Lokhande, Alkhobar
