HAIL: A patient has accused a doctor of a known hospital here to have negligently left a pair of scissors in his stomach following an operation to suck
out fluid.
The news also sparked off angry reaction on social media, with citizens condemning the doctor’s negligence.
The patient, Mohammad Suleiman Al-Haiati, told local media that he suffers from many ailments, including diabetes.
“Three months ago, I went to the King Khalid Hospital in Hail to carry out tests after the fluid in my stomach became overbearing, reaching my lungs,” he said.
According to the report, the doctors at the hospital then cut off two toes from his right foot. However, the patient returned to the hospital after two months as the amount of fluid increased.
Al-Haiati said he was admitted to the hospital and the doctor conducted the operation last week. “However, after two days, I felt much pain in my stomach. The doctor said it was normal and took an X-ray, which showed the scissors,” he said.
“The doctor, without informing me about the scissors in my body, said I needed another operation to remove the fluid from the stomach, for which he took my signature on the consent form,” said the patient.
The doctor is due to travel to Egypt on Wednesday, said Al-Haiati, adding that Dr. Fawaz Al-Rashed, the head of the hospital, told him that case would be investigated.
The patient has urged Hail Gov. Prince Saud bin Abdul Mohsen to order a thorough investigation into the medical negligence case.
