RIYADH: The recent meeting of the board of directors of the National Committee for Prisoners, their Families and Ex-Convicts or “Tarahum” on Tuesday resulted in the announcement of the decision to invest part of Tarahum's funds into private sector.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Labor and Social Development Minister Mufrej A-Haqabani.
The meeting discussed several topics and proposals, including the idea to invest in the private sector.
Under the program, he said, the members of the Board of Directors agreed that Tarhum would pay the electricity and rent bills of the homes of beneficiaries and their families through electronic arrangements.
He said that the board was also notified of the Memorandum of Understanding signed recently between Tarahum and Sheikh Al-Rajhi Foundation. Last year’s statement of accounts was also tabled at the meeting.
Tarahum, an affiliate of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, is a charitable organization designed to help the families of prisoners and ex- prisoners to live decent lives during the difficult periods in their lives.
Al-Zahrani said that such services wean the former prisoners off a life of crime and at the same time rehabilitate them.
