RIYADH: A Sri Lankan butcher at a hypermarket lost his right hand when he accidentally put it in a meat grinder.
Mohammed Muzzamil, 46, an employee at Al-Naseem hypermarket, pushed a chunk of meat into the grinder with his hand, instead of using a plastic stick.
According to an eyewitness, Muzzamil, who was a diligent worker, was trying to work faster than the machine.
His hand was amputated on Saturday at the Riyadh Care Hospital.
Doctors say he is in a stable condition following emergency surgery.
Muzzamil, married with two daughters back home, is from China Fort city of Sri Lanka. He had been working in the butchery for the past 10 years.
He will be adequately compensated, sources say, since his is considered a work accident. A group of social workers is looking after the interests of the victim.
