JEDDAH: McWhengRic basketball team rolled past Al Jazirah Ford 97-88 in the featured game of the third week Thursday in the 12th Filsama Invitational Basketball Conference at Rawdah court here.
It was the first game for both teams in the Strong Open B-C Division where rated players are seeing action in the tournament.
Tasyo Ali scored 22 points while Omar Ulak and Arold Magat each added 15 as McWeng canceled out the 27-point performance by Ford’s J. Edson, who led all scorers with 27 points. Ryan Montejo contributed 21 and point guard Berido had 19 points for Ford.
Radwa International (Sarawat) won its second straight game against Shakba 91-82 in the Inter-Company Non-Rated B. Three players hit double figures for Radwa led by Jomar Limin with 14 points. M. Melbin and R. Desquitado added 12 and 10 points respectively.
Shakba had Faico Radiamoda topscoring with 22 points, while Nazif Ali tallied 12 and Villarama 10 points.
In the first game Thursday, debuting Pagadian edged out RPG Abudawood Co. 83-82 in a thrilling Inter-Company B contest. Pagadian put its experience to good use to send RPG to its second straight defeat in the tournament, as Kusain led the way with 21 points. Balimbingan came through with 10 point and Alden Pagayao added 10 points for Pagdian.
For RPG the main scorers were Sam Manalang 27 points, Ian Mallaneda 25 and Jeff Capugan 19.
Elsewhere, Batang Faisal sent Jeddah Lions reeling to their second defeat in Inter-Company A and Starbucks brought down Toyota.
Filsama Basketball League under the leadership of president and commissioner Abdulmoen “Teng” Laguialam is back after a lull of five months. With Laguialam and Assistant Commissioner Johnny Kitab in the FBL committee are Rene Valle, treasurer ; Allen Celosia, technical director; Ogie Nucum, secretary-general, and the table officials.
