I read with interest the article “Cities for migrants” (Aug. 29) by Peter D. Sutherland. It was nice to read something positive on this issue. Unfortunately, such acts of kindness and generosity usually don’t make it to the media. Perhaps, this is because most of the mainstream media is controlled or owned by elements who hold views similar to the populist forces or xenophobic elements.
The western or Europeans, in general, are not the type of insensitive people as the media is trying to portray. We cannot deny that in some places anti-migrant feelings do exist but I seriously doubt the deluge of negative reports on the issue in the mainstream media. We need to publish more such articles and reports so as to promote harmony among people of different cultural and religious backgrounds. — Rahat Ali Sheikh, Jubail
