Marc Vinck, Belgium’s ambassador to the Kingdom, inaugurated recently the solo exhibit of Belgian artist Laetitia De Clercq entitled “Visual Poetry” at the L’Art Pur Gallery.

Speaking on the occasion, De Clercq said: “Each piece of artwork can be viewed vertically and horizontally because of the emblematic use of the sign system in the traditional domains of writing, drawing, painting and architecture.”

The artist uses oil pastel in her drawings and writes in black and yellow earth inks. In addition, De Clercq paints with the use of acrylics and silk paper cutouts in her work introduce elements of colors and transparency.

She draws references from French artist Henri Matisse. The use of construction materials such as cement gives De Clercq’s canvases a more sculptural aspect.

De Clercq showed interest in exploring emotional rhythm, similar to the lyrics of a musical piece in her art pieces.

She showcased her works of art that had been producing since her arrival in Riyadh, inspired by the Middle Eastern culture.

De Clercq’s works have been displayed in galleries around the world like The Royal Opera Arcade Gallery, Piccadilly Circus, Dexia Bank Exhibition, The London Arts Club and Flanders Gallery.

Each of her work communicates the idea of a small, independent laboratory of artistic improvization and color. Artistic realities could be defined as intercultural tongues or interwoven signs.

The introduction of gold gives the work of art a shiny, warm and rich character that represents the reflection of the Arabian sunlight.

The exhibit comprises 17 art pieces whose prices range from SR8,500 to SR17,500. Visitors included artists, photographers, foreigners and Saudis who expressed admiration for the visual poetry.
