Eid is a boom time for Bollywood, too — the festival spells big bucks. Promotions, an integral part of a film’s box-office success, are planned well in advance for big-ticket releases to coincide with the holiday season.

Over the years Eid has become a significant release landmark for Bollywood in recent years for marquee films.

Going by the trend, there have been several blockbusters in the past and 2014 is no exception.

Among the Khan trio in the industry, Salman has discovered that the festive week rocks for him and his films — and “Kick” is his latest entertainer to hit the big screen on July 25 (see box).

Touted to be high on action, “Kick” is poised to break all records at the box office.

It’s no secret that Salman considers the festival to be his lucky charm but his fans — largely known to represent the lowest common denominator — throng to theaters for a dekko of their favorite star.

About the tremendous buzz of “Kick,” trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, “The rage for Kick is huge among audiences. Salman and Eid are like yin and yang. The theatrical trailer has already generated thumping response.”

Since 2009, Salman has had a release every Eid, barring “Chennai Express” last year. Interestingly, Salman’s first Eid release was the 1997 hit, “Judwaa,” which was produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, and he has wielded his maiden directorial baton for “Kick” as well.

Other Salman’s movies that made their way to theaters on Eid were “Wanted” (2009), “Dabangg” (2010) and “Ek Tha Tiger” (2012) with ex flame Katrina Kaif. All three films were blockbusters.

But in 2013, it was “friend turned-foe” Shahrukh Khan‘s comical ride, “Chennai Express” that made the marquee hum on Eid. The caper marked the entry of the “Rs 200 crore club” in Bollywood. According to a report in koimoi.com, “Chennai Express” made Rs 227 crore at the domestic Box Office.

In 2012, Salman transformed into a tiger and his James Bond-meets-desi action hero, “Ek Tha Tiger,” which was an apt Eid gift for his fans across all ages.

2009 marked Salman’s comeback trail and a late surge in his more than two-decade-long career that has seen several troughs and crests, including a few flirtations with the long arm of law. Prabhudheva`s ‘Wanted’, punctuated with some unbelievable action sequences turned the tide for the actor, as he was back in the reckoning to be the most beloved action hero among the Khan troika.

What’s the reason behind the resurgence of Salman craze?

“Something was establishing a connection between Salman and the citizens of this country that we thought would give a clue to notions of manhood and we wanted to capture what was changing (or not) in this context in India’s small towns,” says Shabani Hassanwalia, documentary filmmaker, in her soon-to-be released film that is based on a young Salman fan from the small town of Chhindwara in central India.

Come Eid, it has to be Salman’s first day first show at the box office save SRK’s “Chennai Express” laughing all the way to the bank.
