LONDON: The American actress Angelina Jolie was made an honorary dame for her work combatting sexual violence by Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II at London’s Buckingham Palace on Friday.

The star of such Hollywood films as “Tomb Raider” and “Maleficent” was made an Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George, which recognizes her close work with Britain’s Foreign Office.

Jolie and former British foreign minister William Hague struck up an unlikely professional partnership while campaigning to raise awareness of sexual violence in conflict zones.
