IF YOU LOOK at the headlines on newspapers, read the online news or if you listen to TV broadcast, you can’t help perceiving all that is going on all over the world under a not particularly favorable light. On the contrary, I would say. I don’t like to sound “negative,” but this is a fact that cannot be denied.
Therefore, when you look at the present human situation, what do you mainly see? You see a lot of people who are constantly fighting at different levels. Countries are in contrast with other countries, some countries fight within themselves, there is no peace in the Stock Exchange and the value of money is in eternal turmoil. Poverty is rampant (although you might not see it with your very eyes).
Every kind of crimes happen each second and whose “logic” is often incredibly distorted. Even within your own environment, possibly your own family, it seems that individuals feel the need to be in contrast with one another. Although everyone tries to disguise the antagonism which is hidden in almost all relationships with a layer of kind but rather hypocritical courtesy, an aggressive attitude is rooted in the deepest part of the “self”(of “your” self, too).
The human spirit is rarely relaxed. People seem to be constantly worried.
Many are looking for success, sometimes even at other people’s expenses. It is difficult for almost everybody to accept a point of view that is distant from theirs. No-one is prepared and/or willing to accept opinions that do not comply with theirs because, even unconsciously, they consider such divergences dangerous for their own individuality. Conflicts of opinions are usually faced rather belligerently, as if discussing things in a calm and friendly way would be impossible.
It is a common strong belief that, in order to make one’s “ego” prevail, it is necessary to lower somebody else’s “ego”. If human beings could only understand that in God’s creation there is space for infinite “egos”! And they are all equally important. It is the idea of “me” versus “you” or “him” that creates all the problems of this world. If you think about it, seriously, you will realize that you don’t need to lower or belittle anyone to feel that you count, that you have a necessary place in society, that you are worth of love and appreciation.
Each of us has a specific place in the great pattern of the Universe: a place that is his own, that will never be taken by anybody else. As in the social context all kinds of jobs are necessary — a plumber in not less useful than an architect and a gardener is as important as a lawyer — also in the spiritual world each individual has his own well defined attributes and they all contribute to carry out the universal plan.
It is not easy to grab the reality of this idea, i.e. that all individuals on Earth are equally important, therefore they do not need to fight to affirm their presence, to prove who they are. One possible explanation could be that they are afraid they are not strong enough and that is why they need to become aggressive in order to show their “strength” — the very strength they fear they do not have. Is this the reason why they feel they always have to prove their point? Is this also “your” belief?
When people learn to understand who they really are, they are also able to perceive their strength, to realize that they deserve respect, that they are valuable, all because thus is how they have been created, because this is their very nature. But up to now it seems that very few have become aware of such reality.
Once such truth is perceived, believed and accepted, human beings will finally understand that there is no need to fight anybody, because there is no need for anyone to prove anything.
