LOS ANGELES: Angelina Jolie starrer Disney fairytale ‘Maleficent’ has crossed the $500 million mark at the box office, making it the highest grossing film of her career.

Jolie’s previous career best earning was in ‘Mr & Mrs.Smith’ where she starred with Brad Pitt. The 2005 film took in $478.2 million at the box office, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

’Maleficent’, which saw Jolie playing the role of vengeful fairy, has enjoyed impressive staying power. The film continues to earn money in its fourth weekend.

’Maleficent’ also surpasses Disney’s blockbuster ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’, which grossed $493.3 million worldwide, the outlet reports.

Jolie has made no secret of her excitement at taking on her latest role.

The actress was joined on the big screen by her daughter with partner Pitt, and couldn’t help but gush to America’s People magazine about the joys of working with five-year-old Vivienne, who got a little help on set from her dad.

“The first day was the day she had to catch the butterfly, and she just really didn’t feel like doing it. I actually was holding the pole with the ball on the end and bouncing up and down and dancing, trying to make her laugh, and Daddy was on the edge of the cliff she had to jump off, making faces and all her brothers and sisters were egging her on,” Jolie revealed.

“She eventually did it but she was taking her sweet time and not wanting to do it twice, certainly.”

Still, the actress admitted she was “frightened” by how well Vivienne caught on.

“When we did it together, we had a good time, we played together,” she said. “I was actually shocked that she was doing so well... she went back and hit her mark! It’s frightening.”
