LONDON: Meghan Markle, a lifestyle blogger and humanitarian activist who plays paralegal Rachel Zane on the series “Suits,” is suddenly on her way to becoming a household name.
Google recently confirmed that Markle was the most-searched actress of 2016. Brad Pitt was the most-searched actor.
In late October, tabloids broke the story that Markle, 35, was dating Prince Harry, causing an Internet meltdown as people around the world raced to their keyboards to find who the lucky woman was.
According to the Washington Post, the timeline is blurry as to when exactly Markle and Harry met; the common assumption is that they met in May while Harry was in Toronto on behalf of the Invictus Games, an Olympics-style competition for wounded veterans.
But Us Weekly reported that the couple met in June through mutual friend Markus Anderson, a consultant to the exclusive Soho House.
Harry also condemned the press treatment of Markle, receiving praise from various groups in the UK.
Laura Bates, founder of the Everyday Sexism Project, who catalogues women’s experiences of gender inequality, said it was “a really important moment.”
The prince “pointing out the inequality being faced by somebody in a position that he would never be in” was “a major positive,” the writer said.
