LOS ANGELES: Twitter account of late Michael Jackson (MJ) released a “short film” for the artist’s posthumous single “A Place With No Home,” as one of the first music videos to premiere on the social platform.
Twitter users will be able to see the video — which the site has exclusively for 12 hours. It was also broadcasted in the middle of New York City’s Times Square, reported USA Today.
A teaser for the video was shown on Fox’s “So You Think Can Dance,” when the show’s contestants will take on Jackson’s songs for their routines. Travis Payne, a former backup dancer and choreographer for the King of Pop, will create the episode’s opening group routine, set to “A Place With No Name.”
Working with MJ’s estate seemed like a natural move for Twitter, capitalizing on what tweeters love to talk about: Music.
“Music is the No. 1 most-discussed subject on Twitter in the US, and 50 percent of all of our users follow at least one musician,” says Shavone Charles, a Twitter spokeswoman. “Music fans from around the globe flock to Twitter to discover and discuss new music in the moment.”
The song is from MJ’s album “Xscape”, which featured several unreleased songs, from Epic Records. Its first single “Love Never Felt So Good,” featuring Justin Timberlake, reached No. 9 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in May.
Jackson recorded “A Place With No Name” in 1998 at Record Plant Recording Studio in Los Angeles, sampling the familiar sound of the 1970s record.
MJ’s account has a staggering 1.5 million followers, while the tweet of the video has amassed over 15,000 retweets and 14,766 favorites.
