Lee the legend: Tributes pour in

LONDON: British actor Christopher Lee, who appeared in more than 250 films, including Dracula, Jinnah, and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, has died at age 93. Here’s a look at some of the tributes that poured in, mostly on Twitter, when news of his death was announced:
British Prime Minister David Cameron: “Saddened to hear of Christopher Lee’s death, a titan of Golden Age of Cinema and distinguished WWII veteran who’ll be greatly missed.”
Actor Roger Moore: “It’s terrible when you lose an old friend, and Christopher Lee was one of my oldest. We first met in 1948. Our thoughts are for Lady Lee, Christina and Juan.”
Director Tim Burton: “Christopher has been an enormous inspiration to me my entire life. He was the last of his kind — a true legend — who I’m fortunate to have called a friend. He will continue to inspire me and I’m sure countless others for generations to come.”
Actor Elijah Wood: “An extraordinary man and life lead, Sir Christopher Lee. You were an icon, and a towering human being with stories for days. We’ll miss you.”
Director Martin Scorsese: “I think of him every day, and I always will. We both wished that we’d been able to work together more, but it was a joy to make ‘Hugo’ together. ... He was a great actor, a wonderful friend, a real professional, and I’m really going to miss him.”
The official James Bond twitter account: “We are very sad to hear Lee, who played one of Bond’s greatest villains, has passed away. Our thoughts are with his family.”
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals: “There was a kind heart behind the on-screen villain, and it was a privilege to work with him on our campaign to end cruel heart-disease experiments on animals and encourage everyone to support charities that don’t hurt and kill animals. He will be missed by all of us.”
