MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was honored with the Global Icon of the year title at Times Now ICICI NRI of the Year Award function in Mumbai on Friday.

After winning the award, the “Happy New Year” actor said he was proud to be an Indian and lauded NRIs all over the world for their contributions to the society.

“I think it sounds much more serious than I can ever be, global and icon, it sounds like really legendary and big. I think now you have extremely professional and entrepreneur like people all over the world, from India. I feel very proud,” SRK said on receiving the Global Icon of the Year award, according to Times Now.

At the second season of the award function, he also said that seeing Indians in top positions all over the world makes him proud. He further expressed his gratitude toward NRIs, who support the Indian entertainment industry.

“I think the reason for why Indian films do so well in other countries is because the Indians are spread and they have the money power not only to earn for the country they are living in, but kind of give back to our country, in terms of following the culture. So I feel very proud as an Indian and I am extremely grateful that a.m. a part of this growth around the world,” he added.
