It’s time for veni, vidi, vici once again in Bollywood.

If you thought Bollywood only entertained actors, who held onto long careers, you are wrong! Many leading ladies, who had done the disappearing act, are all set to charm the screen once more — with feeling.

Bollywood’s choicest heroines who had their share of the limelight, are making their comebacks in near future — with significant films. Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Kajol — the original divas, with picture-perfect looks and amazing talent to match, all had their share of success undoubtedly. They had sparkled on screen at the right time and had graciously exited, for personal reasons. But, now it seems tinsel town’s call is irresistible.

Sanjay Gupta’s ‘Jazba’ has been making news for several reasons. Not only is it Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s comeback film, but it will see an unusual cast. And, if reports are to be believed, it is said to be a copy of a South Korean crime thriller — Seven Days.

Gupta revealed the plot of the film, in an interview to a tabloid. He revealed that Aishwarya is playing a strong female lawyer while Irfan will appear as a suspended cop who is unsatisfied with authority. And John Abraham is expected to do a cameo.

All set to return to her roots in Tamil cinema, is Sridevi — after wowing both critics and audiences with her grand comeback in ‘English Vinglish’. Her next film would be in Tamil and would be dubbed in Hindi.

Directed by Chimbu Devan, Sridevi will play the main role of a princess in the film, which will also feature Tamil superstar Vijay and Kannada star Sudeep. Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor confirmed this development, and disclosed, “Yes, she is doing a film with the Tamil star Vijay. That’s all I can reveal at the moment.”

The invincible Kajol will soon be seen making a comeback in yet another untitled film — co-produced by Ajay Devgn and Endemol. The film which is said to be a mature love story will be directed by Ram Madhvani, whose last directorial venture was Let’s Talk.

Without revealing much, Ajay Devgn said, “Kajol will be doing a film this year. It will hopefully go on floors from October end. It will be produced by me and directed by ad filmmaker Ram Madhvani. It is a woman-centric film. We are looking for a hero. I would only be producing the film...I won’t be a part of it.”

Actress Raveena Tandon Thadani would be seen back again on the big screen in ‘Bombay Velvet’. This is Anurag Kashyap’s much talked-about film that has actors Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in the lead, and lo and behold — Karan Johar will make his acting debut as a villain! It seems on a special request from Anurag Kashyap, Raveena decided to do a cameo in the film.

As the rumor mills would have it, Raveena is doing a special song for ‘Bombay Velvet’. She is also gearing up for the critically-acclaimed director Onir’s next — ‘Shab’, where she stars opposite Sanjay Suri. Incidentally, she has replaced Sangeeta Bijlani here.

Here’s a reality check. Comebacks come laden with huge baggage. It’s often difficult for a comeback film to live up to audience expectations.

For sure, these actresses had certainly had their share of success when they ruled the film industry.

But the question here is — will these comeback films click? Will they set the cash registers ringing? We can only wait and watch!
