Ahmed Al-Awadi is a Saudi businessman who started a campaign to promote healthy living by spreading awareness about everyday sports.
The campaign started in April 2010, but not many people joined the daily jog. Al-Awadi needed stronger tools to deliver his message to a larger audience and make a noticeable impact.
To this end, he promotes morning jogging via YouTube and called his channel Jeddah Morning Joggers. It wasn’t until Al-Awadi released a promotional YouTube video during Ramadan 2012 that the numbers increased. “We had only three to four men jogging with us per run before the video. After, the number increased up to eight men per run,” he said.
Other numbers indicating an interest in the jogging group went up as well. “Before the video was released, we had 65 members for our Facebook group, now we have over 300. Our new Twitter account has over 350 followers, and we have over 270 subscribers to our YouTube channel,” he added.
“Performing cardio exercise while increasing your stamina and regulating your breathing puts your whole body under pressure, not only muscles, even inner organs, the digestive system and blood circulation all strive to cope with the extra intensity, converting the trainee to a superior version of himself. He will work, sleep, think and enjoy life a lot better,” he added.
Al-Awadi is now working on spreading the word by all means possible. “I want to inject the idea of morning exercise in people’s minds, and let our lazy nation be aware that there are people who wake up at 5.30 a.m. to go jogging, and that’s normal,” he said. “YouTube will definitely remain one of our main mediums to encourage and educate people on morning jogging and exercise,” he added.
The campaign is currently for men only, but Al-Awadi is planning to offer women similar activates in enclosed spaces.
You can go for a morning jog with Al-Awadi starting 6.15 a.m. (until 7.30 a.m.) at the International Medical Center, IMC Park on Thursdays or at Al-Mamsha in Faisal bin Fahad St. on Fridays.
