This refers to the report, “World silence over Israeli war crimes inexcusable.” (Aug. 2)

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has adopted a moderate and a balanced approach, which we find in the Qur’an: “Thus have We made of you an Ummah, Justly balanced, that you might be witnesses over the nations...” (2:143)

Well said the king. What he said is not tinged with political color. It is a voice of humanity. This speech should prompt all the Muslim countries to come together to campaign against Israel for its war crimes.

The silence of the world is not only unjustified as the king rightly says, but is criminal. While we hear a very balanced view of the king, we also read news reports that the US is approving $225 million for Israel in the name of defense. What about the defense of the civilians in Palestine including women and children? While the king is chastising the terrorists within the Muslim community, US is supporting its terrorist ally state by giving it more weapons of mass destruction in tacit support of its killing of the innocent people.

I am sure when the Saudi leader mentions about the world silence, he possibly meant the dubious role being played by leaders of major countries. In many cities of these very countries, people are taking to streets to protest against the barbaric acts of Israel. Hence leaders of these democratic nations are not just dumb, but are deaf too, as they refuse to hear the voice of their own people.

While world silence is loud and clear, behavior of certain Arab leaders is quite disappointing. Why for instance the Rafah Crossings are not being opened for the Palestinians?

Arab leaders should unite at least on the Palestinian issue. I also want to know as to what stops us from supporting the fighters with arms to help them defend Muslims in Palestine. Have we given up the right to defend our people too?

I agree terrorists in any community must be fought tooth and nail, but there should be a standard definition to differentiate between a freedom fighter and a terrorist.
