There is a sense of jubilation in the Congress party after its stunning victory in the Karnataka assembly election. The win in Karnataka has rekindled the party’s hope to come back to power again at the center defying all odds stacked against it. I believe it will be naive on the part of the Congress party to believe that their victory in Karnataka can be replicated in the rest of the country.

A series of corruption allegations against the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) has completely destroyed the image of the party in the country. The party does not stand a remote chance of winning general elections in 2014.

The Congress party victory in Karnataka is not its victory, in fact it is the defeat of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP’s government in the state was also mired in a number of graft cases which probably neutralized the Congress’s corruption at the center. — Waheed Khan, By e-mail
