The story on Bangladesh cleaners was quite distressing. It is very sad that workers who sweat all day to keep our city clean are not paid on time. On many occasions, I have spoken to these cleaners in Jeddah who say that they earn SR 400-500 a month. It can be easily imagined how much they can save and send back home. These people work hard from early morning till late night, yet they don’t get what they deserve. It is this sector of labor that is very difficult to Saudize since no Saudi would be ready to do this job. This in turn means that it is for sure that these Asian men, especially Bangladeshi, would still continue working in Saudi municipalities. Since many of them would be leaving before the deadline of the Labor Ministry, it would be totally wrong not to pay them their end-of-service benefits.

They would carry a wrong image of the Saudi government back home. The Saudi government is in fact known for its benevolence and open-heartedness. The private employers must in no way spoil this good name. - Mohammed Abdul Majid, Hyderabad
