I read with interest the article “Iran’s hunger for regional harmony” (March 3) by Abdulrahman Al-Rashed. Tehran may have made some gains in the region by employing dirty tactics and using its proxies but such policies will never succeed in the long run. By promoting sectarian policies, Iran is trying to polarize the Muslim world. It is very important for citizens of other countries to give priority to their national interests. Does Iran think that it will go scot-free?

Instead of focusing on its crumbling economy, Tehran is spending huge funds in neighboring countries to foment unrest and spread its sectarian ideology. I think the possibility of a true revolution in Iran cannot be ruled out. An average Iranian is sick and tired of acting on the whims and wishes of a select group of people with a myopic worldview.

Truth be told, Iran has been blessed with all the natural and human resources that if utilized wisely, can help change the economic situation of the country upside down.

Unfortunately, the country is being ruled by a ruthless minority obsessed with the idea of establishing its hegemony over the region. They are living in a fool’s paradise. They appear to have underestimated the power of other countries. Saudi Arabia, for example, has been on the defensive and just countering Iran’s ugly maneuvers. With joint Arab efforts, Iran will be in no position to continue with its current policies. Most Arab Sunni countries have realized that containing Tehran is very important for regional peace and stability. There is still time left for Iran to mend its ways.
