This is with reference to the report “Westerners join Iraqi Christian militia to kick out Islamic State” (Feb. 16). That is not at all a very positive development and the international community should not take it very lightly and take measures to prevent westerners from joining any militia active in the Middle East’s conflict zones. Failure to do so will make things worse and might change the very nature of the conflict. We, Muslims and non-Muslims, are jointly opposing the spread of IS and consider it a terrorist outfit. But if the trend mentioned in the report continues, the conflict might get religious in nature. We already have the silly “Clash of Civilization” theory of Huntington, a discourse religiously or should I say foolishly adopted by various elements in the Muslim and the non-Muslim world. So, please take measures to prevent a war based on religious identities.
