This is with reference to the report “Youth get safe driving tips” (Feb. 6). It is very important to organize such events raising awareness about safe driving among youths. Without making concrete efforts in this regard, it would be futile to criticize the youths for their bad driving habits. It is, however, an uphill task for the authorities. The spirit of adventure among the youths is very difficult to control but that should not prevent the authorities from making all-out efforts.

It is not just the responsibility of the authorities. The onus lies on every member of society. We all should drive in a responsible manner, as children or youngsters learn from their elders. Patience is the key. We should keep our cool while driving. It is not just the youths who drive recklessly. We can see many mature people driving on the Kingdom’s streets in an irresponsible manner. There is a great need for introducing small courses at the schools level to create awareness among the youths. The authorities should also initiate different schemes to reward safe drivers. These are all ways to entice people in driving safely.
