A UK-headquartered consultancy, Control Risk, has published a ranking in which it finds India second only to Mexico on a list of kidnapping hotspots, ahead of Pakistan, Iraq and Nigeria.

The ranking is based on reports of abductions, and is referred to by international reinsurers for providing ‘kidnap and ransom’ cover to both Indian and multi-national companies (MNCs). I recall when Xi Jinping took over as China’s president in 2012, he promised to take action against the corrupt. Within months, 1,82,038 party members were punished for corruption and breaches of discipline.

There is an old adage, you reap what you sow. The first thing Narendra Modi did after becoming the prime minister was releasing all his corrupt and criminal politicians who were associated with his Hindu radical party. On the other hand, he calculatedly began killing Muslims in the name of terror.

What we see in the survey is just the tip of the iceberg. Many more skeletons are yet to tumble from the cupboard.

India is a great country, but it is being maligned and mauled by its inept and shortsighted leaders.
