Sri Lanka beat England in the second and final Test at Leeds by 100 runs. The thrilling denouement, destined to go down as one of the most exciting finishes in Test history. And Sri Lanka left Leeds with a win; a 1-0 series triumph and a clean tour sweep across all three formats. Sri Lanka won the T/20 and the ODI series against England. It is noteworthy that prior to the English tour the team won the Asia Cup and World T/20 Cup, held in Bangladesh. This is undoubtedly an amazing run of success for the Sri Lankan team, for that matter for any team.

Dhammika Prasad’s 5 wicket haul in the second innings of the last Test and captain Angelo Mathews’ magnificent innings of 160 helped to clinched the victory in the Test. The other notable contributors were the seniors, Sanga and Mahela. Angelo Mathew was selected as the player of the match, while Angelo Mathew (Sri Lanka) and James Anderson (England) were selected as the players of the series.

Sri Lanka should be satisfied with the consistent performances of its bowlers. Although Chandimal should learn to discipline himself in his batting, his performance as a wicketkeeper was excellent.

It is really sad to learn our two legends Sanga and Mahela have played their last matches in England. Although we have the consolation of seeing them playing in other countries, we still would like to see them playing in historic places like Lords.
