The eerie silence of Pakistan’s religious scholars over the activities of Taleban and the self-ascribed Islamic State (IS) is very disturbing. They have a huge responsibility of educating people about the erroneous interpretation of Islam these extremist groups are trying to promote and implement. These groups are using Islamic terminology to promote their selfish agendas. The beautiful concept of jihad has been completely distorted. It is high time the religious scholars made efforts to present the true teachings of Islam to Muslims. Islam does not teach its followers to hate people of other faiths. These groups are trying to hijack Islam. We need to wage an intellectual battle against these groups.
