Reports state that EU countries need manpower and so these refugees should be seen as a blessing in disguise. It seems that the EU reluctance in accepting these hapless people is rooted in Islamophobia.

The unjustified fear of Islam and Muslims is beyond comprehension. I blame the western media for creating this atmosphere of fear. The mainstream media has painted such a negative picture of Islam and Muslims that a common westerner cannot think beyond that wrong perception. The West cannot deny the fact that the current turmoil in the entire Muslim world, particularly in the Middle East, is a gift of the western powers. People usually trace back the roots of all this mess to the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan. I, however, believe that in order to better understand the problems of this region or the Muslim world in general, we need to go back to the colonial era. When anybody tries to raise this issue, people accuse him of being regressive in attitude. We don’t realize that without understanding the complete picture; we cannot come up with a proper solution to our problems.
