This is with reference to the article “Daesh: Is the West really threatened?” by Gwynne Dyer (July 4). I found the article very balanced and objective. The writer has brilliantly proved his point by using in his own words “cold-blooded calculations.” It is true that the western leaders never miss an opportunity to raise the bogey of “Islamist” terrorism to stir panic among their people, obviously for their political gains. As a matter of fact it is the Muslim world that is under threat from the terrorist organizations like Daesh, Al-Qaeda and Boko Haram etc. These terror outfits claim to be fighting western interests in their respective areas of influence but end up slaughtering innocent people, Muslims and non-Muslims, who have no stakes in the western corporate world. In the wake of such attacks, one thing has become clear: The global economy has slowed down but the arms manufacturers are doing a brisk business. This development lends credence to various conspiracy theories circulating in the world via the Internet.
