This is with reference to the article “Condemnation won’t hurt Boko Haram” (May 12) by Sabria S. Jawhar. I agree with the views expressed by the writer. Such militant groups are more harmful to Muslims and Islam than many anti-Islam demagogues.

These so-called Islamic groups are doing everything against the teachings of Islam. They don’t represent Muslims. It is high time that all Muslim countries formed a joint force to eliminate such groups.

They are bringing shame to Muslims and causing unrest in their respective countries. It is due to these groups that Muslims are being targeted and criticized everywhere.

We must take action against such groups and their benefactors. I agree with the writer that mere condemnation would not harm such militant organizations. We need a multipronged action against these elements, which should involve military strike and intellectual and social efforts to root out this deviant ideology. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and other Muslim organizations should convene an urgent meeting to discuss this issue and take some concrete action to deal with this particular matter at the earliest. First of all, we have to act swiftly to rescue the Nigerian schoolgirls and then a strategy should be chalked out to assist the Nigerian government in eliminating this group.
