The article, “Islamic studies teachers ‘must stick to curriculum’,” (March 1) amused me, as it was absolutely rhetorical.

When a physics teacher uses examples from surroundings to support and supplement his teaching, he becomes a fabulous, dedicated teacher. When an Islamic teacher does the same or talks about vices which a child should be aware of, she is “not sticking to her syllabus.”

The article says unless unethical or immoral is noticed she need not intervene, well that means she be a fire fighter and not a fire preventer.

I have kids and when they come back from school and talk to me how teacher has clearly explained what is right and what is wrong I make dua (supplications) and thank Allah Almighty to have been able to nurture the child from a young age of ethical values. I wonder how talking about halal and haram are not part of Islamic teachings!

How a teacher who finds a student straying or not complying with the rules of the school or state is not allowed to make any comments?

Schools in the Kingdom have rules for haircuts, gadgets and mixing of sexes. If a teacher does not comment on it, she displays hypocrisy. Let’s all shed hypocrisy and not tell a physics teacher or an Islamic teacher how to do their job!
