This is with reference to the article “Implementing best management practices in public sector” (Feb. 2) by Saad Dosari. I fully agree with the views expressed by the writer. Saudi Arabia has huge potential and there is a great need for utilizing it effectively.

For that to happen, best management practices should be adopted by the public sector. It not only involves planning and execution of development projects but also utmost transparency in the selection of government officials and effective streamlining and monitoring of government departments.

All public sector departments should adopt the concept of customer-friendly or people-friendly service. It has been observed at various government offices that the officials don’t treat visitors properly and make them run from pillar to post to even obtain little information.

First of all, the government departments should place detailed directions in Arabic and English for the visitors so they would become aware of the entire procedure.

Secondly, the officials should be imparted with adequate training on dealing with people. It is heartening to note that the Kingdom is rapidly digitizing all the government-related services.

We hope that under Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman the country will reach new heights.
