The European Union’s decision to lift sanctions on Myanmar could not have come at a more ill timed moment when the country is in the grip of ethnic and religious conflicts. The EU’s decision speaks volumes of the West’s indifference to the plight of Rohingya Muslims. Now it has become clear to all and the sundry that the Burmese authorities are hand in glove in unleashing terror on innocent Muslims in the country. Rohingya Muslims should not be discriminated against because of their faith. They have been living in Myanmar since ages.

Leading light like Aung San Suu Kyi is also morally accountable for this catastrophe, given her renowned worldwide status. Suu Kyi is known as a crusader for autonomy and human rights, but she has deliberately chosen to ignore the cause of the Rohingyas.
