This is with reference to the report “India Modi-fied by exit polls” (May 13). It seems that the Hindu right-wing opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to take over India. This is not a good sign for the world’s largest democracy famous for its secularism.

It is true that the BJP had remained in power earlier but this time around the person serving as the poster boy of the party and its prime ministerial nominee, Narendra Modi, is the real problem. He is the same person who never misses an opportunity of spitting venom against minority communities, particularly Muslims.

The world still remembers the 2002 Gujarat pogrom. Modi as the prime minister of India will not bode well for the country. He loves stoking communal tensions for political gains.

If his rants are to be believed, regional tensions are set to escalate due to his hawkish policies. The BJP should reconsider its choice and nominate somebody else for this coveted position. Modi, I presume, will not be acceptable to any political party.
