This is with reference to the article “Year in review: Sharif does a decent job” (May 14) by Muhammad Waqas. I really fail to understand what has Sharif done to earn such accolades. It is true that the Sharif-led government had inherited many problems but we should not forget that Sharif and his party were sitting on the opposition benches during the PPP-led government. As a responsible opposition, they could have obstructed many moves made by the then government. After all, in a true democracy this is what an opposition is supposed to do. They did not play their due roles for the “sake of democracy.”

They are equally responsible for the current state of the country. However, this should not serve as an excuse to oppose or criticize the government’s decisions aimed at the welfare of the people. Sharif has been blessed for the third time. He should act wisely and steer the country out of the current crisis.
