This refers to Abdel Aziz Aluwaisheg’s article, “Poor state of Arab universities.” (July 29)

The article is based on a report by Center for World University Rankings and which did not take trouble to go into the details of the reasons why such a pathetic situation prevails in the Arab world.

It did not also take note of the huge spending that is being incurred on education by the Arab countries most notably by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and UAE. This is besides world’s arguably the best infrastructure that the countries in the Middle East — again most notably Saudi Arabia — are providing to their citizens, surely not for tourist attractions but for the aim to educate their masses.

And even then if the standards show up a poor report card, it is for the best minds in the region, including think tanks, scholars and top writers like Aluwaisheg, to analyze the situation and come up with suggestions to really hit the nail on the head, instead of publishing a mere report on somebody’s research.
