With the onset of summer vacations, shopping malls are witnessing a deluge of people, particularly expatriates, busy in buying gifts for their loved ones back home. This is the time of year when a large number of expatriates visit their home countries and airlines do a brisk business, as everyone is gearing up for travel. A drop in the traffic on roads is also a recurring feature during summer vacations.

This is also the time when youngsters try their hands at driving. It is just the beginning of the vacations and I have already witnessed two road accidents. In both the cases, teenagers were behind the wheel.

Although they escaped serious injuries but the cars were really in bad shapes. Most accidents involving teenaged drivers are caused due to speeding and violating basic traffic rules and regulations. Of course, they lack the expertise and experience to wade through the streets, so crashes are inevitable.

Even for an adult to become a good driver he needs to learn basic skills, judgment, decision-making skills and lots of practice. Imagine a teen getting behind the wheel straight from his classroom, what safety one could expect. So, it is parents’ duty to make sure that their children are mature enough to safely take on the responsibility of driving.
