Ebsar charitable organization started the“Building the Hope” campaign on Thursday to support the education and rehabilitation of the visually impaired.
The campaign started under the auspices of Prince Talal bin Abdul Aziz, the honorary president of Ebsar.
Mohammed Towfik Bellow, secretary general of Ebsar Foundation said they are planning to implement different programs for blind and disabled children during this summer, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Social Affairs.
Bellow also said the campaign is part of a plan under the supervision of the governorate of Makkah region to create a friendly environment for the disabled and spread awareness on their needs.
“The disabled need universal access, especially in urban areas, and means of transport. It is our social responsibility to integrate the community and build a more secure environment. We must teach disabled people how to get through life. They should also know about shopping etiquette, and how to produce artistic and literary works, among others,” said Bellow.
Bellow also said by focusing on the ease of access for the visually impaired, Ebsar wants to enable them to participate in various community events, and gain respect for their rights.
Ebsar plans a blind prevention program; a food aid program and wants to find employment for 250,000 visually impaired persons. The foundation wants to do feasibility study to set up an industry for the blind and visually impaired as well as early intervention center, kindergarten and a data center.
