Restriction placed on import of pepper from India

The Ministry of Agriculture will no longer import pepper from India. Samples of the pepper tested positive for pesticide residue. The ministry deemed this unacceptable.
Consequently, it has decided the requirement of a certificate endorsed by an official agency to be attached with each imported shipment of Indian pepper.
The certificate should be accompanied by an official document to testify that pesticide residue on the particular product is within the maximum allowable levels set by the Codex Alimentarius Commission, which was established by the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. This decision will be effective from Apr. 16.
