At least 10 people died and eight were injured when the vehicle in which they were traveling crashed into the famous “coffee shop” building on the Mahail Asir-Jeddah Road on Thursday, officials said.

Ahmed Ibrahim Aseeri, Saudi Red Crescent Authority spokesman for the Asir region, said his organization sent six teams to provide first-aid services to the injured.

The accident took place in the early morning hours, he said.

“We transferred the bodies to Mahail Asir General Hospital around 4 a.m.,” he said.

Saeed Al-Naqeer, Asir’s health department spokesman, said his organization declared an emergency at the hospital following the accident.

He said six of the injured were receiving treatment for medium and minor wounds.
