Police in the Makkah region have arrested more than 10,000 expatriates in a single month for violating residency and labor rules amid ongoing inspection campaigns.

“Most of the arrests took place in Jeddah, Makkah and Taif,” Lt. Aati Al-Qurashi, Makkah police spokesman, said on Sunday. “The expats have been referred to authorities for further action.”

“Beggars, street vendors and car cleaners were among foreigners arrested.”
