JEDDAH: A total of 105 pay-and-park areas have been opened in the city, including Jeddah historical district, downtown market place, Bab Makkah, Al Andalus Street and Palestine Street.

Hani Ahmad Abdullah, media spokesperson for Jeddah Municipality, said the paid parking areas for cars, jeeps as well as trucks are a part of the Jeddah development project to facilitate motorists’ with proper parking places.

Two new paid parking — under the King Fahad bridge for 649 vehicles and at Makhzoumi Road toward Makkah road for 492 cars will be opened soon after the works such as paid meters and surveillance cameras are in place, he said.

The municipality with the cooperation of Jeddah Development and Urban Regeneration Company (JDURC) has introduced the paid parking system.

“It’s worth mentioning that the final phase of the paid parking is under way at many places in terms of installing equipment, devices , signboards, meters, sign boards and traffic signals to provide space for over 6,000 cars in the central part of the city,” said Abdullah.

He said that a company is involved in the construction, operation and maintenance projects .

Abdullah said the JDURC is involved in the development and regulation of parking of cars and trucks. “These projects are aimed at turning challenges into opportunities and providing services to the residents and visitors of Jeddah,” he added.
