ALKHOBAR: A total of 1,060 security violations have been found by the Passport Department on the King Fahd Causeway during the last six months, said Faisal Al-Balasi, director of the Passport Department in the Eastern Province.
Al-Balasi said that Passport Department at the causeway is one of the region’s main ports in terms of crossing and security control statistics. He explained that the violations included impersonation, smuggling, forgery, and entry or travel of listed individuals.
He said that the Eastern Province is characterized by its geographical location and proximity to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries which means it has the largest number of ports in the Kingdom. He noted that the EP Passport Department receives the constant support of EP Gov. Prince Saud bin Naif so that it is able to facilitate the entry and departure of all those in transit.
In addition, the department successfully performs its tasks at all ports to ensure the availability of mandated conditions for arrivals and departures, the integrity of travelers’ documents, and to limit the movement of individuals listed in the entry or travel ban lists and take the necessary steps if such people are encountered.
The Kingdom has recently installed four fixed Saher cameras on the Saudi side of the causeway to monitor speeding on the bridge which links Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
The King Fahd Causeway Authority (KFCA) and the Eastern Province Traffic Directorate have selected the locations as part of a plan to crackdown on cars exceeding a speed of 100 km/h.
Lawbreakers captured by the cameras will be informed immediately of their traffic offenses by a short text message (SMS).
The authorities are seeking to decrease the number of traffic violations and reduce fatal accidents by using cutting edge surveillance cameras.
