RIYADH: Eleven students who were on their way home after taking their school tests were injured in a traffic accident near the Al-Moosa school in Al-Baha on Wednesday.

Imad Al-Zahrani, official spokesman of the Saudi Red Crescent in Al- Baha, said two of the five students picked by the Red Crescent were seriously hurt, while another one was having breathing difficulties due to trauma. The other two were pronounced out of danger. They are all in the King Fahd Hospital in Al-Baha.

The remaining six were taken to the same hospital by health officials from the Ministry of Health and the Civil Defense.

Al-Zahrani said the accident site soon attracted large crowds of people, which made moving the injured to the nearest hospital a difficult task.

With the beginning of school tests on Sunday, the directorate general of the Traffic Department made special arrangements to help students travel to and from their homes without any difficulties.

Col. Hussein bin Ahmed Mubarak, chief of the Traffic Department in Al-Baha, said that his officials would man all strategic points near schools and universities till the last day of tests in the region.

On Sunday, extensive arrangements were made by the Ministry of Education in all parts of the Kingdom to enable students at the intermediate and secondary levels to sit for their year-end tests all over the Kingdom .

The arrangements made by the Education Ministry included transport for everyone, including physically disabled students, from their homes to the schools and back to where they reside.
