RIYADH: A man who follows deviant ideologies revealed his intent to murder one of his relatives for advising him not to go to Syria and to stop supporting terrorists.
The Riyadh Specialized Penal Court sentenced the man to 12 years in jail.
A second suspect was sent to 10 months in jail. The court acquitted two others for lack of sufficient evidence presented by the prosecutor.
The first defendant was convicted of following deviant ideologies, supporting terrorism by sending SR60,000 to Syria, receiving SR2,500 to support militants, providing SR8,500 to help one of his relatives travel to the war-torn country, and delivering two cameras and other computer devices to terrorists there.
He was also convicted of covering up one of the members of terrorist organizations who set up a fund to collect SR1 million to support terrorism, as well as jointing training camps and traveling to Syria several times to participate in fighting there.
He was also convicted of communicating with Syrian militants to ensure the killing of one his colleagues there, and helping four other people travel and join terrorist organizations abroad.
The man was convicted of setting up a Twitter account to spread hate messages and communicate with those fighting in Syria, recruiting fighters to join the ranks of the organization, tweeting offensive messages about the Kingdom, and communicating with a woman on social media, seeking revenge against his relative for opposing his travel to the country.
