RIYADH: At least 13 people, including an Omani family on their way to perform Umrah, have miraculously survived a horrible car accident on Friday night in Qassim.
“At 5:29 p.m. on Friday, someone called to inform us that there was an accident involving an Omani family in a Yukon car along with a number of Pakistanis in another vehicle,” a citizen informed the Red Crescent Authority (RCA), according to Mohammed Abdullah Al-Jiaithin, the RCA spokesperson in the region.
Al-Jiaithin said that five emergency medical teams were mobilized to extend assistance to the victims, suffering from mildly serious to critical injuries.
The spokesman also explained that some of the victims were brought to a hospital in Al Rass where the necessary treatments were applied.
“One of the cars was a total wreck and it’s a miracle that its occupants survived the horrible accident,” he said.
The motorists should always take the necessary precautions, he added.
He said that accidents take place in Qassim quite often, adding that recently a road accident involving a bus and a truck killed 15 people and left 60 injured.
He added that early this month, an accident also took place on the road between the Saudi capital and Qassim. The car crash cause a bus to catch on fire.
He noted that two helicopter ambulances took part in the evacuation of the victims after the Qassim crash, five of whom were in critical condition. He did not comment on the cause of the accident, however.
The Ministry of Health said that traffic accidents are the leading cause of death among the young people in the Kingdom, noting that at least 17 people are killed in road accidents each day in Saudi Arabia.
