JEDDAH: Jeddawis and visitors to the city now have another new, long and spectacular walkway. The 1,500m long and 40m wide path, which is the second longest in the city after Tahlia walkway, has been opened for the public.

The Jeddah Municipality, under the auspices of Prince Mishal bin Majed, governor of Jeddah, has provided this facility, keeping in mind increasing obesity and other health concerns.

The Rehab walkway is located between Umm Al-Qura Street and Haramain Street. The Tahlia walkway is 2km long.

The Rehab walkway is equipped with the latest equipment for all segments of society, including a place for the elderly and people with special needs. It has a unique athlete’s port containing sophisticated equipment for different sports such as walking, running, bicycles and exercises.

The walkway also has 16 mural paintings donated by Fine Arts for a total area of 350 square meters, umbrellas with chairs to relax and car parking area.

Additionally, the walkway provides a convenient and leisurely jogging path for residents and visitors in the Kingdom’s busiest commercial hub.

City Mayor Hani Abu Ras said the municipality is keen to provide the best services to residents and visitors, including health facilities and footpath projects, to encourage walking habits.

Jeddah Municipality recently opened other walkways in different areas with the help of sub-municipality branches — a 2,000-meter youth lake walkway behind King Fahd Coastal City; 1,500m path in Al-Faisaliya and 1km Eastern Oasis walkway along the Makkah highway.

Abdulbasit Khalil, a visitor to the Rehab walkway, said it was a fantastic move by the authorities to open this walkway. “It will save a lot of time and it is much more convenient to have a place to walk for physical exercise in the evening to improve health.”

He said it even the disabled and elderly have the opportunity to participate in healthy activities.
