Spokesman for Al-Ahsa municipality, Khaled bin Booshal, said that Hofuf municipality has shut down 21 shops during the past week in accordance with scheduled regulatory campaigns for monitoring shops’ activities related to public health.

Booshal said, “There were 1,720 kgs of food, meat and vegetables unfit for human consumption that were destroyed, and Hofuf municipality also destroyed 18 liters of spoiled oils used in the preparation of foods.”

He said, “Three shops were found to exercise activity other than its legally permitted activity, and about 1,021 unserviceable pots and tools were also destroyed.”

Qasim Alhezwm, the Hofuf municipality chairman, said that sanctions and regulations have been imposed against violators according to municipal regulations. He said that the municipality will redouble its efforts to arrest violators of rules and regulations.

He pointed out that the corrective follow-up campaigns for shops are part of the ongoing inspecting campaigns to protect the public’s health. Alhezwm said that the sub-municipalities have an important role in the field of public health surveillance and in ensuring food safety.
