Customs authorities seized 1.9 million captagon tablets at the Haditha border crossing between the Kingdom and Jordan recently.

The contraband were concealed in apple boxes.

Director of the Haditha Customs Ibrahim Al-Anazi said: “A truck carrying apples and vegetables heading for Saudi Arabia arrived at the crossing. During a routine check, the inspectors discovered the huge quantity of narcotic tablets in plastic bags, but hidden inside apple boxes. The bags were covered with red leaves just as apples were. The inspectors arrested the driver, seized the tablets, and handed them over to security authorities for more detailed investigations."

Anazi added that the smugglers resort to any imaginable ploy to bring banned substances into the Kingdom with the aim of corrupting youth.

However, vigilant customs officials make a number of successful operations that foil the smugglers’ attempts.
