Two Indian construction workers lost their lives in a construction site accident that occurred in Abha three days ago.

Indian laborers Jayendra Kumar and Kalam Ahmed Kamran both hail from the Indian State of Uttar Pradesh. They were working with Nataf Construction Company which has a number of projects in the Abha area. Kumar was unmarried and had been working in Saudi Arabia for the past two years. Kalam Ahmed Kamran also was unmarried and had been working in the Kingdom for the past 16 months.

Dileep Chand, who was a co-worker of the dead men, told Arab News yesterday that the accident occurred while they were cleaning pipes in a six-meter deep hole on Al Yousuf Road in Abha.

One of the men was sitting down to clean the pipe and the other was working while standing when excavated soil crashed down on both of them. He said that the incident took place on Feb. 18 at 9:30 in the morning. Police and civil defense teams were called immediately to the site. The men’s bodies were removed from the site and moved to the mortuary at Abha Central Hospital.

Indian social worker Ashraf Kuttichal said that following completion of legal formalities, the body of Jayendra Kumar will be repatriated to India while that of Kalam Ahmed Kamran will be buried locally.
